From E-Commerce to Worldwide E-Export: The MegaMerchant Story

After working with leading online marketplaces in Türkiye and then holding roles across Alibaba Group’s operations in China, Brazil and Russia, Süleyman Yaman Alpata founded MegaMerchant in April 2022. The name means “mega trader” in Turkish, and it stands for a business model: bringing the legal, logistics and financial infrastructure Turkish brands need under a single roof so they can reach customers abroad without friction.

Our founder, Yaman Alpata, tells the story in his own words:

“After twenty years in corporate life I decided to build my own company. Ten of those years were spent in e-commerce, and for the last five I was inside the industry with a global giant, Alibaba. I had the chance to work at Alibaba’s headquarters, where I was the first Turkish employee. I built both logistics and payment systems across Türkiye, China, Brazil and Russia, and worked with tens of thousands of brands and SMEs along the way. Those experiences are what made me decide to move to the other side of the table.”

Sellers share a common problem: wherever they are, they want more customers but do not know how to reach them — or they already export, yet the added value ends up outside their own company. China leads the world in exports, and much of that trade is intermediated by “megamerchants”. MegaMerchant is modelled on that idea, and stands as a working example of public-private cooperation: a structure the Turkish government planned for and actively supports through incentives.
